Where grief and loss transform into healing and growth.

Grief is a deeply personal journey—one that can feel isolating, overwhelming, and ever-changing. At Carnea Counseling, you don’t have to navigate it alone. Here, you’ll find a compassionate space to process your loss, explore your emotions, and discover a path forward that honors your unique experience.

I believe in the power of connection, resilience, and evidence-based care to support you through life’s hardest moments. Together, we will tailor a healing approach that acknowledges your pain while helping you rebuild meaning, strength, and hope. Grief is not just about loss—it’s also about love, memory, and transformation.

At Carnea Counseling, I recognize grief as a normal and natural response to loss—one that takes many forms. While society often ties grief to death, the heart mourns in many ways: the loss of a loved one, a complicated relationship, a pet, an estrangement, a life-changing diagnosis, a shift in identity, or even the anticipation of loss. Whatever you are carrying, it is welcome here.

No matter where you are in your journey, I’m here to walk alongside you with warmth, understanding, and guidance. Healing doesn’t mean forgetting—it means finding a way to carry your grief with you as you move toward a life that feels whole again.

At Carnea Counseling, grief is honored, healing is nurtured, and transformation is possible. I look forward to walking this path with you.

Let’s Grieve Together, Grow Together, Thrive Together.

My approach to grief therapy is rooted in deep expertise, shaped by the wisdom of brilliant teachers, the guidance of compassionate mentors, my own lived experiences, and years of working as a social worker in bereavement, hospice, and chronic illness care. I earned my Bachelor of Science from Skidmore College in New York and my Master of Social Work from the University of Denver in Colorado.

Over the years, I have developed a therapeutic style that blends warmth, gentle humor, and a deep well of compassion. I often use metaphors to help bridge the familiar with the unknown, making difficult emotions more approachable and grief more understandable. My goal is to create a space where you feel seen, supported, and empowered as you navigate loss—where your grief is honored, your resilience is recognized, and healing unfolds at your own pace.

I work from my home office in Massachusetts, and I’m honored to serve clients in New York, a place I proudly called home for over 13 years. I hold a deep reverence for nature and the way the universe aligns in beautiful, cosmic coincidences. My clients’ courage and vulnerability inspire me daily, and I am grateful for the love and support of my cherished friends and family.

In my downtime, I find peace in walking my neighborhood with my dog, writing heartfelt letters to friends, or taking a ride on my motorcycle—weather permitting. If you feel we could work well together, have any questions about Carnea Counseling, or would like to learn more, I invite you to book a free consultation with me. I’d be honored to connect with you.

I look forward to walking this path with you.

The name Carena Counseling has botanical and metaphorical roots. As my father told me when I was a child, I share my name with a plant that is a “low lying shrub.” Upon further research, I learned that Erica Carnea is the scientific classification of winter heath. This resilient plant is found on stony slopes and is known for blooming pink flowers in the coldest winter months. This imagery is what I offer to you as a metaphor for our therapeutic work together. Your grief has buried you in the dark winter, under the cold and heavy snow.

In our work together, you can not only survive this season but bloom in it.

“There will be moments when you will bloom fully and then wilt, only to bloom again. If we can learn anything from flowers, it is that resilience is born even when we feel like we are dying.”

Grief does not happen in isolation; it ripples through every aspect of life. I take a holistic approach, considering the emotional, physical, and relational factors that shape your experience. Loss disrupts connection, but healing comes through reestablishing it — within yourself, with others, and with life moving forward. Our therapeutic relationship is a foundation for this healing, providing a safe, supportive space to explore your grief and begin rebuilding in a way that feels right for you

Even in the face of deep loss, resilience is within you. Grief can feel overwhelming, but I believe in your ability to adapt, grow, and find meaning in the hardest moments. My role is to help you recognize and strengthen the inner resources you already have, cultivating hope and self-trust along the way. Healing doesn’t mean forgetting; it means learning how to carry your grief in a way that allows you to move forward with strength and purpose.
