At Carnea Counseling, your unique needs and circumstances are the center of treatment. My therapeutic approach is eclectic in that I have training in and experience providing many kinds of therapy. This gives you the opportunity to receive counseling informed by the principles, philosophies, and perspectives of a customized combination of therapies that is tailored to best serve you.
My Modalities
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT):
Helps you identify distorted, unhelpful thoughts that negatively impact your emotions and behaviors; challenges those thoughts; and replace those thoughts with healthier and more adaptive ones.
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT):
Emphasizes radical acceptance, emotional regulation, and mindfulness; balances acceptance and change; supports making and maintaining healthy relationships; and prioritizes increasing your emotional distress tolerance.
Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT):
Helps you increase awareness of your thoughts and feelings, gain mental clarity, and let go of negative thoughts. Emphasizes accepting your thoughts and feelings while committing to goals that support your values.
Attachment-Based Therapy:
Helps you understand how your earliest bonds with caregivers impact your emotions, behaviors, and relationships in adulthood; fosters a connection between you and your inner child; and builds healthy attachment styles.
Psychodynamic Therapy:
Helps you gain insight into the root of your emotional suffering; uncovers unconscious emotions and thoughts that influence your behaviors; and explores current conflicts and relational dynamics.
Narrative Therapy:
Helps you become the expert in your own story and rewrite your story in a way that promotes agency, healing, and connection.
Solution-Focused Therapy:
Helps you focus on finding solutions to you immediate problems; identify and harness you individual strengths, values, and motivations; and increases your capacity to handle different situations.
Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS):
Helps you conceptualize and understand the different “parts” of yourself; heal and manage conflict between the parts; and regain mental and emotional balance.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT):
Emphasizes accepting your thoughts and feelings while committing to goals that support your values.
Holistic Care
Trauma-Informed Care
Trauma-Informed Care is an approach to health care where organizations and providers consider how trauma impacts clients and aim to prevent re-traumatization. At Carnea Counseling, Trauma-Informed Care is integral to the therapeutic approach, as is communication, consistency, honesty, safety, collaboration, and empowerment. Improving systems and practices is a constant and valued practice.
Therapy Topics Beyond Grief
While grief and loss may be what leads you to seek therapy at Carnea Counseling, your loss doesn’t exist in a vacuum. Experiences in your past influence how you grieve and navigate loss in the present, which makes healing those old wounds an essential part of the therapeutic process. Stressors concurrent to your grief also need to be explored and processed in therapy so you can more safely navigate your loss outside of the therapeutic environment. No topic is off limits here. If there comes a point where my expertise no longer serves you, we will have a conversation about my limitations, the care you need and deserve, and potential referrals to providers with different specialties.
